Silvia Balzan is an interdisciplinary architect, designer, and researcher.
She was a research assistant at the Visual Communication Institute of HGK FHNW Basel,
where she was part of the SNSF funded research project (2018-2021)
“Visual Communication in Participative Urban Planning Processes.”
She is currently a graduate researcher at the Institute of Social Anthropology
of the University of Basel, where she examines the social and political aspects
of the built environment during colonial and postcolonial modernity in Africa (regional focus: Mozambique),
through the disciplinary lens of architecture history and theory and visual anthropology.

She holds an MA in Architecture from IUAV University of Venice, Italy
and an MA in Visual Communication and Iconic Research from HGK FHNW of Basel, Switzerland.
Alongside her professional experience, she worked for architecture offices,
clients, and teaching institutions.
