About
The project explores the possibility of employing types going beyond their signified and playing with their shapes in space.
Letterforms belonging to the word pair “full” and “empty” in both English and Chinese translations are randomly combined to compose a map of an imaginary city. The outcome is a surreal plan consisting of disassembled typographical elements.
The work had been produced during a workshop held at The Basel School of Design in collaboration with a group of designers from Taipei, Taiwan.
The goal was to explore different design processes involving different languages and approaches to design. The series of foldable city maps have been manually screen-printed in 10 copies for each color combination.
